Stationery store · Downtown Fresno
elli&pal is a physical stationery store in Downtown Fresno, California, specialising in transaction ledger books, account books and the everyday record-keeping stationery that businesses rely on. Come in, compare formats in hand, and leave with the right book.
Our specialty
A transaction ledger book is a bound, pre-ruled book for writing down what happened in a business: what came in, what went out, who owes what and when. Every line is dated, every column has a purpose, and the whole record sits on a shelf where anyone can pick it up and read it.
At elli&pal we stock transaction ledger books and accounting ledger books for shops, traders, offices, schools and professionals across Fresno. If you keep records by hand, or alongside your software, this is the ledger book shop to start with.
Who uses them: small retailers, market traders, restaurants and cafés, workshops and contractors, landlords, clubs and associations, bookkeepers, schools and anyone who wants a clear, permanent record of business transactions.
One line per transaction, in the order it happened. The simplest, most dependable way to keep a running account of the day.
Track what was sold, to whom and for how much, so takings, receipts and end-of-day totals always reconcile.
Log everything bought for the business, with supplier, date and amount, ready for the accountant or tax season.
Cash in, cash out, and the balance on hand. A cash book column layout keeps the float honest.
Who bought on credit, what they still owe and when they paid. Essential for any shop that lets regulars run a tab.
A page or section per customer, so their whole history with you is in one place and easy to look up.
Deliveries received, invoices due and payments made, supplier by supplier.
Stock counts, goods in, goods out and running quantities for a stockroom or workshop.
Debit and credit columns with a running balance: the classic double-entry layout for small business record keeping.

Buying guide
Ledger books look similar on the shelf, but the ruling inside decides how useful the book will be. These are the things worth checking before you choose.
Start with the job. A book for daily takings needs a different layout from one that tracks customer accounts or stock. If the book will be shared between staff, simpler rulings tend to stay tidier.
Columns are the main difference between ledger formats. A two-column book (money in, money out) suits simple cash records. Three columns add a running balance. Multi-column books let you split entries into categories such as cash, card, credit or department.
More columns give more detail, but every extra column has to be filled in every time. Choose the fewest you will actually use.
Look at where the date, description and figure columns sit, whether the ruling runs across a double-page spread, and whether pages are numbered. Numbered pages are useful when a record may need to be checked later.
Larger books give wider columns and room for legible handwriting, and suit a fixed spot on a counter or desk. Smaller formats are easier to carry between a van, a market stall and home.
Estimate how many lines you write in a typical week and how long you want one book to last. A thicker book means fewer changeovers; a thinner one is lighter and quicker to fill and file.
Hardback, case-bound ledgers lie flat, survive daily handling and store well as a permanent record. Softer covers cost less and are lighter, and are often fine for short-term or occasional records.
Some records are better served by a purpose-made book than a general ledger: a cash book for cash, a receipt book when the customer needs a copy, a duplicate invoice book when you need one too. Ask if you're unsure which fits.
This guidance is general. Formats, sizes and rulings vary by manufacturer, and the range on our shelves changes. Visit the store to compare the options currently available, or call ahead and describe what you need.

Ask About AvailabilityAbout elli&pal
elli&pal is a stationery store in Downtown Fresno. We focus on the products that help businesses and individuals stay organised: transaction ledger books first, then the account books, cash books, receipt books, files and pens that sit alongside them.
We stock what we would use ourselves. That means books that lie flat, paper that takes ink cleanly, and formats chosen for how people actually keep records, not for how they look on a shelf.
Because we are a physical store and not a website, you can pick up a book, check the ruling and compare sizes before deciding. If you are not sure what you need, ask. Helping someone find the right ledger is the part of the job we like most.
